MEET THE SPEAKERS
John Shawe-Taylor
John Shawe-Taylor is a professor at University College London where he holds the UNESCO Chair of Artificial Intelligence. He is also the Director of the International Research Centre on Artificial Intelligence (IRCAI) under the auspices of UNESCO in Ljubljana Slovenia.
ABDULRAHMAN HABIB
Dr. Abdulrahman Habib, is the Deputy Chief Strategy Officer, Saudi Data and AI Authority (SDAIA). Dr. Habib served as deputy Research Director and led AI Ethics Principles developments among other multiple national AI projects for the National Center for Artificial Intelligence. Before joining SDAIA, he worked as an assistant professor at University of North Texas. Dr. Habib is a data science scholar focused on emerging technology adoptions with focus on smart city, data science, artificial intelligence, open data, and Human Computer Interactions. He has over 20 years of experience in digital transformation and received grants from different government agencies to study open data and smart cities. He has more than 20 scientific publications and presentations. He is a community leader organizing events and conferences with IEEE and ACM among other local data science events. Dr. Habib is honored to represent Saudi delegation in AI ethics recommendations among other local and international committees.
Naif AlHarbi
Naif Alharbi is a Senior AI Engineer at the National Center for AI (NCAI) under the Saudi Data and AI Authority (SDAIA). He is interested in cutting-edge applications in computer vision and robotics. Naif has gained experience from working in start-ups and government organizations, where he has built, developed, and deployed numerous computer vision applications for commercial and industrial sectors.
EHSAN HOQUE
Dr. Ehsan Hoque is a professor of Computer Science at the University of Rochester (on-leave) and currently, serves as the Chief Scientist at the National Center for AI (NCAI) at the Saudi Data and AI Authority (SDAIA). He is known for his pioneering work in human-centered AI and health technologies. He has published over 100 papers in top AI journals and conferences. Dr. Hoque, a senior member of AAAI and a distinguished member of ACM, has received prestigious awards including the ACM UbiComp 10-year Impact Award and MIT TR35 Award. He earned his Ph.D. from MIT.
HAJAR ALHUJAILAN
Hajar Alhijailan is an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at King Saud University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. She received her Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Liverpool in Artificial Intelligence. She taught AI courses for students in Computer Science Department at King Saud University.
NOUF ALSHENAIFI
Dr. Nouf AlShenaifi is a lecturer, researcher, and PhD candidate at King Saud University, specializing in Artificial Intelligence, machine learning, and data science. Her research focuses on Natural Language Processing methods. She actively engages in innovative research, with work published in prestigious journals and presented at international conferences, reflecting her commitment to advancing the field of Artificial Intelligence.
ABEBAW DEGU
Abebaw Degu is an engineer, teacher, and researcher. He holds BSc in software engineering and MSc in Computer science and engineering from Adama science and Technology University, and a PhD in Artificial Intelligence from Euromed University of Fes. Abebaw’s research focuses on reinforcement learning and transfer learning, particularly in the areas of sequential decision-making and optimization. He is actively engaged in innovative research and has published papers and presented his work in international conference in these fields.
SARAH ALOTAIBI
Sarah Alotaibi is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at King Saud University. She holds a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Computer Science from King Saud University and a Ph.D. in Computer Vision from the University of York in the United Kingdom. Her research focuses on computer vision and machine learning, with an interest in deep learning with statistical and appearance modeling, face modeling, reflectance analysis, and inverse rendering. Dr. Alotaibi has published numerous papers in these areas.
Sahan Bulathwela
Sahan is a lecturer affiliated with the Centre for Artificial Intelligence at University College London (UCL) currently contributing to X5GON and HumaneAI projects. He is the deputy programme director of the AI for Sustainable Development MSc programme at UCL, the first programme of its kind in the world and part of the UNESCO Chair of Artificial Intelligence. His research interests lie in the theme: “Improving AI-enabled systems for lifelong learning”. Before joining UCL, he has worked in several research roles in the industry in cybersecurity and personalised advertising domains where he gained experience in user state modelling in a big data landscape.
